🌿 Our first-choice plant-based travel: the National Health Association

✨ Dreaming of seeing the world while eating whole-food, plant-based meals? Our first choice is the National Health Association’s Plant-Based Travel groups, organized with Lisa McCarl, NHA Travel Advisor and former open-heart recovery nurse 🩺. 🚢 NHA says its group cruises with Windstar Cruises serve whole-food, plant-based meals without added salt, oil, or sugar. 🌍 NHA’s page also lists journeys such as a Rwanda gorilla and chimp experience (Nov 22 – Dec 1, 2027) and a Cape Town and Botswana safari (Dec 4–12, 2027).

🕊️ Why we choose them: we look for organizations that honor patients and clinicians alike and serve people with compassion, in the spirit of Mother Teresa.

“First choice” is our own recommendation, not a business partnership. Trip names and dates are as listed on NHA’s page on October 17, 2026; check there for current availability. Videos play from NHA’s own YouTube channel. NHA, Windstar, and Lisa McCarl are independent and have not reviewed or endorsed our sites.

💵 Price transparency: our founder’s reported booking amount

Nathanael reports paying US$25,188 for two linked REVIVE! 2027 Kenya and Rwanda reservations—US$12,594 per traveler. This is his historical booking amount, supplied in his account; the underlying invoices have not been independently reviewed for this page. It is not a current advertised price or a quote for another traveler.

🎓 Generous scholarships from Dr. Robyn Tiger 🐅: Dr. Tiger generously offered Nathanael multiple scholarships for this retreat. The US$25,188 above is what he paid after those scholarships were applied; without her generosity, the cost would have been higher. Nathanael also understood that the retreat could qualify for continuing medical education (CME) funds.

According to his account, the included-package balance was ultimately confirmed as $0, while international airfare and other excluded or variable expenses were separate. The $25,188 therefore should not be read as an all-in, door-to-door trip cost. He reports that understanding the complete financial commitment required repeated clarification and caused him stress.

We are publishing the amount he reports paying so readers have a concrete historical reference. We do not claim that every traveler had the same experience, that prices are absent everywhere, or that another provider’s trip is a like-for-like price comparison.

🪷 Our values: truthful prices, less stress, and informed choice

We stand for truthful, upfront pricing and less administrative stress—not more. We expect major travel commitments to be explained in one usable written summary before payment: total package price, paid-to-date amount, remaining balance, mandatory external expenses, optional and variable costs, scholarship terms, companion-change charges, and cancellation and refund consequences.

Direct dollar questions deserve direct numerical answers. If a cost is unknown, it should be labeled unknown or given a clearly identified estimate. These are standards we advocate for every provider and for our own educational work.

Health equity, compassion, respectful communication, and the well-being of patients and clinicians guide our work. People deserve time to understand the commitment and ask questions without pressure.

Our standards for travel recommendations

We value clear written pricing, respectful communication, informed choice, appropriate accessibility information, and support for clinician well-being. Before making a major payment, travelers should request a complete cost summary, cancellation and refund terms, companion-change rules, physical-demand information, insurance details, and a clear assignment of responsibilities.

Clinician well-being begins before the retreat: with transparent pricing, respectful communication, and the freedom to ask questions without pressure.

🩺 Why the trip was canceled

Nathanael’s cancellation followed a recurrent shoulder dislocation requiring emergency-department evaluation and orthopedic reassessment. As Nathanael understands Hornbill’s written reply, its bookings are governed by its standard terms, and after speaking with Dr. Robyn Tiger it agreed to a one-time exception to issue a refund. In Nathanael’s understanding, the refund was a discretionary exception rather than something the standard terms entitled him to. That is why we urge every traveler to ask, before paying, whether medical cancellations are covered in writing.

Acknowledging assistance

🐅 Thank you, Dr. Robyn Tiger, for helping light our path toward clearer, more compassionate travel experiences. Nathanael appreciates her reported assistance in contacting Hornbill on his behalf about his medical-cancellation request, and Hornbill’s reported action to initiate a substantial refund. That assistance is acknowledged with gratitude. Refund reconciliation remains separate from the historical booking price above; this notice does not announce that funds have been received or that the matter is fully resolved. This thank-you does not imply Dr. Tiger endorses our organizations or this notice.

❓ Seven questions to ask before you pay for any trip

  • 💵 What is my total price, in one written number, after every scholarship or discount?
  • 🎓 Are my scholarship terms in writing? What happens to them if I cancel or change plans?
  • 🧾 Can I use continuing-education or work funds? Will you give me the receipts and paperwork I need?
  • 📅 What have I paid, what do I still owe, and when is it due?
  • 🩺 If I get sick or hurt, what is the written refund policy?
  • 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 What does it cost to change a travel companion or roommate?
  • 📞 Who is my one contact for money questions, and how fast will they reply?

  • 📅 ¿Cuánto he pagado, cuánto debo todavía y cuándo vence?
