Story Time with Willow
Little Seawolf and the Spilled Soup
🌅 The sun was going to sleep over the Oregon Coast. The waves whispered, shhh, shhh. The sand was still warm.
🐺 Little Seawolf sat under the giant evergreen tree with his ears down low. “Willow,” he whispered, “I made a mistake today. I spilled the whole pot of soup at the big table.”
🦉 Willow the Wise Owl blinked her big round eyes. “Hoo-hoo. And what happened after the soup spilled?”
Little Seawolf thought. “The Ohana Seagulls flew over with napkins. Shebah did her silly wiggle dance and everybody laughed. And then we made a big salad together instead.”
“That,” said Willow, “is what a family table is for. Not for being perfect. For being together.”
🪔 Then Willow lit a little brass lantern. “This lamp can’t light up the whole beach,” she said. “But it can light your very next step. And tomorrow, your next step can be helping someone else.”
⭐ Little Seawolf gave a great big wolf yawn. The stars came out one by one. And the seagulls sang softly from the branches: “Goodnight, friend. Goodnight, family. Goodnight, little light.”
The End 🌙
🪔 A Moment by the Lamp, for little Guardians
💬 Who helped Little Seawolf after the soup spilled?
💬 Have you ever made a mistake that turned out okay?
💬 What is one way you could help someone tomorrow?
🥗 Try it tomorrow: help set the table, or wash the veggies for a family meal, with a grown-up nearby.
For grown-ups: this is a made-up story. The idea underneath it is real: shared family meals, kindness after mistakes, and calm bedtime routines help children feel safe and connected. Illustration created with AI assistance.

📖 Guardian Stories
Short stories to read aloud together. Each one ends with something to do away from the screen.
🌑 The Little Seawolf and the Midnight Lighthouse
The adventure: The stars came out, but the Little Seawolf didn’t want to stop exploring. “I’m not tired!” he said, yawning. Willow the Wise Owl didn’t scold him. She listened. Then she said, “Even adventurers need rest. Shall we build a lighthouse to guide you to sleep?” Together they made a plan: wash up, put on pajamas, read a quiet story, dim the lights, say one thing you’re thankful for, and snuggle into bed.
What did our Guardian notice? A routine helped his body know it was time to rest. · Pearl: 🌑 Midnight
Try it: Draw your own lighthouse bedtime, one step on each window. · Family challenge: Dim the lights together tonight.
🥣 Captain Crumb and the Rainbow Bowl
The adventure: Captain Crumb piled dinner into one giant beige mountain. “Delicious!” he said. “But where are the colors?” asked the Little Seawolf. With Shebah’s tail wiggling, they found green spinach, red peppers, orange carrots, purple berries, and creamy white beans. Captain Crumb dropped a bean on his nose, and everyone laughed. Then they built a bowl as bright as a rainbow.
What did our Guardian notice? Many colors can fit in one bowl, and trying new foods can be fun. · Pearl: 🟢 Green
Try it: Draw a bowl with five colors in it. · Family challenge: Build a rainbow bowl together with a grown-up.
🟡 Shebah’s Wiggle Trail
The adventure: Whenever Shebah is happy, her curly tail wiggles. One rainy afternoon everyone felt stuck inside, so Shebah led a Wiggle Trail right through the living room: march like a heron, stretch like a tall tree, hop like a frog, dance like the waves, reach for the stars. Friends who use wheelchairs rolled and spun and reached just as high.
What did our Guardian notice? Moving can be joyful, and there are many ways to do it. · Pearl: 🟡 Golden
Try it: Shebah’s 30-Second Wiggle Break. March, stretch, hop or rock, dance, and laugh. Move in ways that work for your body. · Family challenge: Take a family walk or roll.
🐦 The Ohana Seagull Who Flew Alone
The adventure: One young gull thought asking for help meant being weak, so he flew off by himself. Then the wind grew strong and gray clouds rolled in. “Over here!” called the flock. They made a circle around him, and together they flew safely home to the cove.
What did our Guardian notice? Strong Guardians ask for help. · Pearl: 🌹 Rose
Try it: Draw your flock, the people who help you. · Family challenge: Talk about who each of you can ask for help.
🔵 Otto and the Five Sounds
The adventure: Otto was zooming so fast he bumped into a rock. Professor Octavius smiled and asked, “Can you hear five sounds?” Otto floated still. Waves. A gull. The wind. A tiny crab clicking. His own breath. “I didn’t notice any of that before!”
Ask Professor Octavius: Why does slow breathing help? Taking slow breaths can help your body feel calmer. · Pearl: 🔵 Blue
Try it: Name 5 sounds, 4 things you see, and 3 things you can feel. · Family challenge: Put the screen down and find five sounds outside.
⚪ The Great Community Table
The adventure: Everyone was invited to a feast by the sea. Captain Crumb brought bread. The seagulls brought berries. Otto brought a song. Grandma brought her famous soup, and the littlest Guardian brought napkins. Nobody brought everything, and everybody brought something.
What did our Guardian notice? Flourishing is a team sport. · Pearl: ⚪ Silver
Try it: Draw what you would bring to the table. · Family challenge: Share a meal with friends or neighbors.
🌊 Admiral Orca and the Clean Cove
The adventure: The cove was cluttered with floating wrappers. Admiral Orca called everyone together. The Guardians (with their grown-ups!) helped clear the beach, and the animals got their home back.
What did our Guardian notice? Oceans connect all of us, and wildlife needs space. · Pearl: 🌊 Ocean
Try it: Choose one way to help nature this week. · Family challenge: A family cleanup with a grown-up. Safety: grown-ups pick up anything sharp or unknown; wear gloves.
🦦 Otto Goes to the Clinic
The adventure: Otto felt nervous about his checkup. His grown-up held his paw. The nurse smiled and explained each step before she did it. Otto asked, “What happens next?” and she told him. When he felt scared, he said so, and that was okay.
What did our Guardian notice? You can ask what to expect, and you can say when you’re scared. · Pearl: 🌹 Rose
Try it: Think of one question you’d like to ask at your next checkup.
🪶 The Mindfulness Feather
Willow keeps a soft feather in her wing for big-feeling days. When everything feels like too much, a Guardian can hold up a pretend feather and…
Pause. Feel my feet.
Blow the feather slowly. Breathe in… and out.
Look around: what can I see and hear?
Name my feeling.
Ask a trusted grown-up for help.
“Wisdom is not carrying the most tools. Wisdom is knowing when each belongs, and when to call another helper.” — Willow

🥣 Guardians in the Kitchen
With Captain Crumb, Shebah, and a grown-up, Guardians can wash produce, tear greens, measure oats, mix beans, arrange fruit, name colors, and smell herbs.
Safety: a grown-up handles knives, heat, ovens, blenders, and boiling water. Check for food allergies first.
🌱 The Flourishing Garden
Plant an herb, water it, and watch a seed grow. Seed → root → water → growth. Some helpers are like roots: they stay close to everyday life. Some helpers are like water: they help good information and support travel where it’s needed.
🌈 Faith & Flourishing
For families who want it: Willow teaches the Little Seawolf about the Armor of God, the Fruit of the Spirit Garden, and a Bible Story Trail. It’s an optional path. Every other part of Flourishing Guardians is open to all families.
Your body belongs to you. If someone hurts you or makes you feel unsafe, tell a trusted adult. Keep telling until someone listens. You are never in trouble for asking for help.
The Flourishing Guardian Promise
I will keep learning.
I will care for my body.
I will rest when I need rest.
I will move in ways that bring me joy.
I will try nourishing foods.
I will care about my feelings.
I will ask for help.
I will help others.
I will care for the earth.
I will remember that everyone deserves kindness.
I will not expect myself to be perfect.
And as I grow, I will help make the world a place where others can flourish too.
The Little Seawolf looks toward the great Flourishing Orchard. Willow rests on a branch above him. Shebah sits beside him, tail curled and wiggling. The Ohana Seagulls cross the sky, Admiral Orca rises from the water, and Professor Octavius waves from the shore. Farther down the trail stands the Great White Seawolf, a reminder of who the Little Seawolf may become. And at the very highest branch, Momma Eagle watches over the nest.
Every Guardian starts small.
Every great tree starts as a seed.
Every orchard needs water.
Every child deserves roots.
Every family deserves a place to belong.
And every generation can help the next one flourish.
🧭 For Grown-Ups Who Want to Go Deeper
Every story has a grown-up layer. What children learn as “friends help,” adults know as social connectedness. “Willow needs sleep” is restorative sleep. “Rainbow bowls” are healthy eating patterns. The Grown-Up Trail Guide covers talking about food without shame, safety, screen time, and trusted family resources, including NHA family recipes, Plantrician pediatric Quick Start material, NutritionFacts.org, and ACLM’s six pillars.
🍳 The Jaroudi Family: Brittany Jaroudi shares whole-food, plant-based recipes her own family loves, plus a podcast about raising kids on plant-based food. Recommended by Nathanael Elijah Smith, FNP-C. (Outside website, not affiliated with Kitchen Monk.)
