Explore complimentary education from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine
Lifestyle medicine should not stay hidden inside journals, conference halls, and institutions. Knowledge should travel: to the nurse, the nurse coach, the CNA, the kitchen, the family, and the community.
Kitchen Monk™ independently recommends educational resources from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) and encourages you to explore them directly at the source.
Independent recommendation. Kitchen Monk™ is inspired by and supports the broader advancement of evidence-based lifestyle medicine. 🌱 Start Here: What Is Lifestyle Medicine?
ACLM describes lifestyle medicine as an evidence-based approach built on six interconnected pillars: optimal nutrition, physical activity, stress management, restorative sleep, social connectedness, and avoidance of risky substances. These six pillars are the branches of our orchard below.
🟢 FREE
🔑 Create a Free ACLM Account
This is one of the most useful first steps. ACLM says there is no cost to create a lifestylemedicine.org account, and that it lets you download complimentary resources, view past public-access webinars, search for a lifestyle medicine clinician, and register for events.
Some ACLM resources are complimentary, while others require membership, enrollment, or purchase. Kitchen Monk links to ACLM so current access requirements can always be confirmed at the source.
🌳 The Complimentary Resource Orchard
ACLM’s Complimentary & Member-Only Resources hub is organized by category, including six-pillar resources, assessment tools, recommendations and standards, delivery models such as shared medical visits, payment resources, and patient education. Many items require logging in, and some are for members only.

🌲 The Six Branches
Each branch links you outward to learning at the source.
🍎 Branch One: Optimal Nutrition
ACLM offers a Food as Medicine Jumpstart guide to help people begin planning whole-food, plant-predominant meals and build confidence in the kitchen. Pair it with NutritionFacts.org for the research and our free cooking guide for a first recipe.
🚶 Branch Two: Physical Activity
Walking, cycling, swimming, strength training, gardening, and adaptive or seated movement all count. Find movement you enjoy enough to repeat, and come move with us through Move With a Nurse™, Kitchen Monk’s developing nurse-led community movement, including Walk With a Nurse™ and Bike With a Nurse™.
🌙 Branch Three: Restorative Sleep
Consistent, restful sleep supports body and mind. If sleep problems persist, a clinician can help evaluate them.
🌊 Branch Four: Stress Management
Breathing, time in nature, gardening, journaling, and community support can all help. Lifestyle education complements, and never replaces, professional mental-health and medical care when needed.
🤝 Branch Five: Social Connectedness
Families, friends, neighbors, walking groups, shared meals, and faith or community groups. This is where Nurse Coaches, our Flourishing Care Connectors™, help people find their people. Join our free community.
🛡 Branch Six: Avoidance of Risky Substances
Support, prevention, and protection, never shame. Evidence-based treatment and recovery resources exist, and a trusted clinician can help you find them.
For materials on every pillar, visit the ACLM resource hub, where you can browse by category.
🏠 Bring Lifestyle Medicine Home
ACLM offers patient-facing resources to support behavior change, and its resource library includes Spanish-language and other translated materials. Kitchen Monk links to them rather than copying them, so you always receive the latest authorized version.
ACLM education → you explore it → a clinician helps put it in context → a Nurse Coach helps turn goals into daily life → a Flourishing CNA supports the roots at home → family and community → flourishing
🩺 Need Individualized Care?
Education is not the same as individualized medical care. With a free ACLM account, you can search for a lifestyle medicine clinician near you.

The Flourishing Nursing Forward™ Bridge
Lifestyle medicine cannot scale through any one profession alone. Nurses work in homes, hospitals, clinics, schools, public health, long-term care, telehealth, and faith communities, so they can help lifestyle medicine travel farther into everyday life.
Kitchen Monk’s developing Flourishing Nursing concepts are independently developed and may draw inspiration from established lifestyle medicine delivery models such as shared medical appointments. They are not ACLM programs or ACLM-approved models.
