🌿 Our suggested SOS-free changes
These are Kitchen Monk’s own suggestions, written by us. The creator didn’t make, demonstrate, test, or approve them. ⏳ Our changed version has not been kitchen-tested.
- 🥕 Broth: use water or homemade salt-free vegetable broth instead of store-bought broth (even low-sodium broth has added salt). The flavor will be milder; extra onion, garlic, and herbs help.
- 🧂 Miso: leave it out for a strict SOS-free soup, and finish with an extra squeeze of lemon and black pepper. Keeping a little miso? That’s fine as a step along the way, but it adds salt, so that version isn’t strictly SOS-free.
- 🌶️ Spices: check the label on any spice blend; some contain salt or sugar.
- 🥜 Allergy note: the creator’s soup uses cashews (a tree nut). A nut-free idea is to blend in cooked white beans instead; this changes the texture and nutrition and hasn’t been tested.
🧮 Nutrition: we haven’t calculated nutrition for either version, so no numbers are shown here. Changing the broth or miso mainly lowers sodium. This is general education, not advice for a specific medical diet.
