A lamp we’re grateful for · Yakima, Washington
Dr. Yami Cazorla-Lancaster & Nourish Wellness
A pediatrician who believes health belongs in everyday life: in family kitchens, in movement, in rest, and in the way we care for ourselves while caring for others.
Why I Recommend Her
Some people talk about lifestyle medicine. Dr. Yami built a place where families can walk into it. Nourish Wellness is a pediatric primary care practice in Yakima that treats nutrition, movement, stress, and connection as part of ordinary care, not as extras squeezed into the last minute of a visit.
When I imagine what Kitchen Monk hopes to help grow, a clinic like hers is one of the pictures that comes to mind: a bright, welcoming space, a yoga and meditation studio on site, a plant-based juice bar next door, and a physician who has spent years teaching families that healthy food can also be joyful food.
She is, in my view, one of the finest examples of lifestyle medicine for children and families in the Pacific Northwest, and I’m grateful her work exists.

🪔 A Moment by the Lamp
What would a doctor’s visit feel like if there were time to talk about how your family eats, moves, rests, and laughs together?
🌿 Nourish Wellness, Yakima
Dr. Yami founded Nourish Wellness after years as a pediatrician in central Washington. It offers pediatric primary care, including well-child visits, preventive care, and care for acute and chronic conditions, with lifestyle medicine woven through: nutrition, movement, stress reduction, and connection. The practice keeps its days intentionally smaller so there’s time for real conversations with families.
- The Studio at Nourish: an on-site yoga and meditation space.
- Vida Health Bar: a plant-based juice bar right next door.
- A plant wall in the waiting area, so families start their visit somewhere calm and green.

Who She Is
Born in Panama and raised in East Texas, Dr. Yami first saw what caring medicine could look like while watching her aunt, a general practitioner, treat patients in her grandmother’s living room. She went on to earn her DO, a Master of Public Health, and a Master of Science at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, and completed her pediatrics residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Today she is a board-certified pediatrician, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a Diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and a national board-certified health and wellness coach. She holds a Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition and is a certified Food for Life instructor.
In Yakima, she founded the Vegetarians of Yakima meetup and helped co-found the Yakima Health and Wellbeing Coalition. She also runs Radiance Unleashed, a lifestyle medicine coaching practice.

For Parents and Caregivers
Dr. Yami’s work keeps returning to a question Kitchen Monk cares about deeply: how do you care for others without disappearing yourself? Her approach to feeding children is gentle rather than fearful, and her conversations about wellbeing include the parents, not only the kids.
Your life belongs in the care plan too. If you’re a parent in the Yakima Valley looking for a pediatric home built around that idea, Nourish Wellness is worth a visit. If you’re anywhere else, her book and podcast are a good place to start.

For Nurses and Clinicians
If you’ve ever wondered whether a lifestyle medicine practice can really exist outside a big health system, Nourish Wellness is a living example: a small, intentional practice designed around prevention, relationships, and wellbeing for patients and the people who care for them. It’s the kind of model Flourishing Nursing hopes more nurses and nurse practitioners will be inspired to build.
